Framing Notes
I’ve produced these notes to help you frame your fine art print. However, they’re just suggestions and reflect how I set about the task. Please feel free to frame however you wish.
I recommend float mounting the print. This produces an attractive shadow around the edge of the print and highlights the hand torn edges of the textured paper. Float mounting involves fixing the print to a smaller but thicker card behind the art print.
All of my prints have a white border surrounding the image, which varies in width depending on the size of print. For example, our 80 cm by 80 cm prints have a white (unprinted) border of 10 cm. Whatever the border width of your print I recommend allowing the same amount space between the print and the internal edge of the frame. So, using the example above, the image is 70 cm x 70 cm, the print is 80 cm x 80 cm and the internal size of the frame is 90 cm x 90 cm.
For information the edges of my frames are 2cm wide.
I recommend that the prints be mounted behind anti-reflective glass. This removes most of the distracting reflections and allows you to see the print more clearly. If you’re planning to hang the print in a very sunny position them I recommend using UV protective glass. Though it is more expensive than anti-reflective glass it provides extra UV protection, helping to ensure that the colours do not fade over time.
